KVM Extender is a compact hardware device that consists of a transmitter and receiver unit that gives user the ability to send keyboard, video and mouse signals over Cat5/Cat5e/Cat6 cables to long distances. Transmission of KVM over Cat5 is achieved by connecting your KVM source, such as a PC, to the transmitter which is then connected to the receiver via UTP cable. It is here at the remote location that you will connect your additional keyboard, video display and mouse for remote KVM over Cat5 control of your computer! KVM Extenders are available in several models including PS2 and USB and can maintain high quality VGA or DVI video resolution. Alternate KVM over Cat5 versions also allow for transmission of RS232, audio, and infrared signals as well.
